TAFEVC Tools
The TAFE VC has a number of
tools that your teacher can use in your unit/module. Here is a reference
of the available tools. Please note that your teacher may have used different
icons for these tools or given them different names. The icons shown here
are ones that are typically used in courses.
Please note that
unit/modules are unlikely to contain all of these tools. They are only
available if your teacher has enabled them in your course.
Assignment
Drop-box
The
Assignment Dropbox allows you to submit assignments for grading. Click
the Dropbox icon and follow the on-screen instructions. Your instructor
may provide additional information such as the format in which to
save your assignment files. Upload your assignment by clicking Student
Files, then Upload. Click Browse to select a file from your computer.

Audio
Clicking
the Audio icon lists the audio files the instructor has associated
with the current topic. If there are no audio files, this icon will
not appear on the Button Bar.

Bookmarks
The Bookmarks feature enables you to bookmark (create a shortcut)
to Unit/Module pages. While viewing a course page, click the Bookmarks
icon, then click Add Current Page. To view a bookmarked page, click
the Bookmarks icon and select a listed hyperlink. |

Bulletin
The Bulletin Board enables you to communicate with your
instructor and other students in forums. This is an effective way
for you to participate in class discussions outside of a regular
lecture. |

CD-ROM
Click the
CD-ROM tool to access a CD. You must indicate the path and drive holding
your CD-ROM (for example, D:). If you are using a Macintosh, specify
the volume label for the CD-ROM. If your instructor has course material
on a CD, then the software will access that information from your
CD-ROM drive. Click Help for more information.

Chat
The Chat tool allows you to take part in real-time conversations with
other users. There are four general-purpose rooms, one general chat
room for the course, and one for all courses. Click on a room to enter
it; the Chat applet displays other users who are in the same room.
It also allows you to send private messages to users by clicking their
names. To send a message, type the text and press Enter. |

Content Compiler
The Compile tool enables you to compile a collection of course content
pages that can be printed or viewed online. You may select Mark
All to compile all of the pages listed, or select any number of
pages by clicking each box. Click Mark None if you want to clear
all the selected boxes. Click Continue to compile. Use the print
function of your Web browser to print the compiled notes.

Course
Content
Course Content is where the instructor places the course
information and notes. To access Course Content, click Contents. Note:
Your instructor may have used different terminology to label the course
content.

Glossary
The Glossary contains a searchable list of definitions. Click the
Glossary icon to access the Glossary. There are three ways to use
to the Glossary tool: By Starting Letter: Click a letter from A to
Z to view glossary keywords beginning with the selected letter. If
no glossary terms begin with a particular letter, that letter is not
hyperlinked. As a Whole: Click View All to display the complete glossary
in alphabetical order. By Searching: Click Search to bring up a text
box and enter your search text. The search then begins for matching
glossary keywords and definitions. |

Home Pages
The
Student Homepage provides you with tools to create a personalised
Homepage that contains information about your projects, your interests,
your cat's name, or anything you wish to include! Student Homepage
consists of three frames: a list of students, a Homepage display
frame, and a Student Homepage toolbar

Images
Clicking
the Images icon takes you to the Image Database. Here you can view,
search, and retrieve images from the databases created by your instructor.
If no images have been added to the course, the Images icon will not
appear on the Button Bar. |

Index
The Index tool lists all of the index entries in a course and provides
links to course content pages. |

Mail
The Private Mail tool allows you to send a private message to one
or more course participants. The layout and functionality of Private
Mail is similar to that of the Bulletin Board.

Movies
Click the
Movie icon to list video files that your instructor has included in
the current topic. This icon will not appear on the Button Bar if
there are no video clips available.

My Progress
The My Progress tool displays information about your account, including
login information, Course Content pages you have accessed, and Bulletin
Board articles you have posted and read |

My
Grades
The My Grades tool enables you to view grades for your assignments
and quizzes. You can also view class statistics by clicking a hyperlinked
column label.

Presentations
The Presentation tool enables you to prepare a presentation
or view other students' presentations. Clicking this icon divides
the browser window into two frames: the top frame lists the various
presentation groups, while the lower frame lists the User IDs of members
in a group. You must first click on a hyperlinked group before the
names appear. If you click on a project link, a new window that contains
the selected presentation will open. Your group will have an Edit
Files link next to your group name. Clicking this link will take you
to the File Manager where you can upload and organize your presentation
files.

Note:
You must name your starting file index.html otherwise, your
project name will not be hyperlinked to your presentation.

My Progress
The My Progress tool displays information about your account,
including login information, Course Content pages you have accessed,
and Bulletin Board articles you have posted and read |

My
Notes
You can enter personal annotations for a particular topic
by clicking the My Notes icon. Click Add or Edit to enter a note,
or click View All to see all of your notes.

Quiz
Your instructor can create quizzes for you to take. When you click the
Quiz icon, the Quiz screen will display. The Quiz screen is organized
into the following five columns: Title: Click the hyperlinked title to
access the quiz. If a quiz is not available or has already been taken
the maximum number of times, the title will not be hyperlinked. Availability:
This column shows the time period in which the quiz may be accessed. Duration:
If the screen displays a time in the duration column, then you have that
amount of time to complete the quiz. If there is no information displayed
in this column, then you have unlimited time. Grade: The grade you received
for the quiz. For example, 90/100 indicates that you received 90 out of
100 points. Attempts: This column displays the number of times a quiz
has been attempted and the number of attempts remaining. Once an attempt
has been marked and its grade released, the corresponding number will
be hyperlinked. Click this hyperlink to view your graded quiz. Once you
complete a quiz, click Finish to submit it. Click Statistics to see how
you performed in relation to the rest of the class. Click Results to view
your quiz results.

References
The References icon directs you to an article, URL, or book
reference that may be relevant to the current topic. This icon will
not appear on the Button Bar if there are no references for the topic
page you are viewing. |

Resume
session
The Resume
Session tool takes you to the last page of notes you accessed during
your previous session. |

Search
The Search tool allows you to search for a particular keyword. You
can search by All Content Text, Content Titles, Content Headings or
by Bulletin Board Articles. |

Self
- Test
The Self-Test tool allows you to test your knowledge of the current
topic. If no Self-Test questions exist for the current topic, this
icon will not appear on the Button Bar. |
 |
Site
map
When you click the Site Map icon, a new window will display
the structure of the entire course on one page. The course elements
are hyperlinked, enabling you to go to any place in the course from
a single page. |
 |
Target
Clicking the Targets icon displays the learning goals for
the current topic. If no learning goals exist, the icon will not appear
on the Button Bar.
