Digital Story Telling

Digital Storytelling is the practice of using computer-based tools to tell stories. As with traditional storytelling, most digital stories focus on a specific topic and contain a particular point of view. However, as the name implies, digital stories usually contain some mixture of computer-based images, text, recorded audio narration, video clips and/or music.

Digital stories can vary in length, but most of the stories used in education typically last between two and ten minutes. And the topics that are used in Digital Storytelling range from personal tales to the recounting of historical events, from exploring life in one's own community to the use in the workplace or educational setting, and literally, everything in between.

Using Photostory 2 and Movie Maker 3, this workshop will introduce you to the world of creating digital stories. Participants will work towards building their own digital story in this all-day hands-on workshop. The cost of the workshops includes detailed takeaway instructions, software and resources available on CD ROM, to help you continue your own digital story building.

BYO headsets You should bring your own headset or purchase one from a local department store –cost around $10-$15.

BYO the following
- 10-15 of your own personal photos (saved in jpeg format)
- Music of your choice (on CD or saved as a wav. or mp3 file).
- A USB stick to take the finished story home.

Copyright Workshop

Using copyright in education workshop Without too lengthy explanation this session is designed for those that need to know about how copyright works in the education system. Covering what is covered by copyright, and quickly moving to compliance - what you can use via the statutory licence or blanket licences and where to get cheap/free digital resources.

This workshop will then give an overview of the creative commons (CC) licences and how they can work in the VET environment, it will also show how they can be utilised to assist brand recognition (TAFE/RTO name) and reduce license costs by using CC licensed material. This workshop will provide time to explore sites with CC licensed material.

E-assessment Workshop

Do you have questions about e-assessment, or want to share your experiences and thoughts to promote better understanding and improved practices in e-assessment?

On 29th July, Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework) is conducting half-day workshops in Melbourne on E-assessment challenges and solutions.

The workshops will support the implementation of the Framework's E-assessment and the AQTF report, which considers key e-assessment issues for practitioners and auditors, and e-assessment compliance with the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) 2007.

The workshops will also help to determine the requirements for draft national guidelines for the auditing of e-assessment strategies.

The workshops are particularly timely as the E-assessment and the AQTF report found that while e-assessment is growing in popularity and being increasingly adopted throughout vocational education and training, many practitioners and auditors are still finding their feet with e-assessment.
